Editors’ Note: In its May 15th 2006 issue, Time Magazine published an article entitled “A Tale of Two Schools,” by Claudia Wallis. Both schools serve children with autism. One, the Alpine Learning Group, was described in terms that many readers found to be biased, painting the school, its staff and its approach in terms that portrayed them as coldly manipulative. The other school, called the Celebrate the Children school, was depicted as a far more caring, nurturing and productive environment for children. Members of the public, as well as members of ASAT’s Board of Directors, chose to write statements expressing their views on this article. Here is a sampling of the letters that the ASAT Forum received on this topic.
